On Saturday, April 1, 2023, Anthony Joshua won a unanimous points decision victory over Jermaine Franklin in their heavyweight boxing bout at London’s O2 Arena, marking a return to winning ways for Joshua.
During their fight, Anthony Joshua and Jermaine Franklin had a heated confrontation at the end, which required them to be separated. After the final bell, Joshua reached out to touch Franklin’s head, but Franklin was angered by the gesture and confronted Joshua.
The two began grappling and stumbled towards Franklin’s corner before Franklin’s trainer intervened and provoked a reaction from Joshua. Security eventually stepped in to separate the two teams. Despite the tension, Joshua ultimately won the fight via unanimous decision, with scorecards of 118-111, 117-111, and 117-111 in his favor.
Throughout the fight, Joshua maintained control and established his jab, while Franklin landed some lead hand shots of his own. In the second round, Joshua landed a big right hand and followed up with some impressive slip-left hooks to the body.
Anthony Joshua’s win over Jermaine Franklin was his first victory since 2020, following his successive defeats to Oleksandr Usyk. The 33-year-old former world heavyweight champion lost his global titles to Usyk and was unable to reclaim them.
