COAS Lt. Gen. Waidi Shaibu Charges 3 Division Troops to Sustain Pressure on Criminal Groups, Protect Communities and Consolidate Security Gains in Plateau

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has directed personnel of 3 Division Nigerian Army and Operation ENDURING PEACE (OPEP) to sustain pressure on criminal groups while strengthening peace-building efforts across Plateau State and neighbouring areas.

The COAS gave the directive on Monday, September 14, 2026, during an operational visit to the headquarters of 3 Division and OPEP, where he reviewed the security situation, ongoing operations and measures being taken to protect vulnerable communities.

During the visit, Lieutenant General Shaibu inspected the ongoing construction of the Nigerian Army Remotely Piloted Aircraft System (RPAS) Control Station.

The facility, upon completion and activation, is expected to improve the Army’s Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) capabilities, enhance real-time awareness of the operational environment and provide commanders with timely intelligence for decision-making.

The General Officer Commanding 3 Division and Commander OPEP, Major General Maxwell Dangana, briefed the COAS on current operations, security arrangements and engagements with key stakeholders aimed at preventing violence and promoting sustainable peace.

Lieutenant General Shaibu commended the troops for their courage, professionalism and commitment to duty. He urged them to remain alert and disciplined while strengthening cooperation with other security agencies, traditional authorities, community leaders and other stakeholders.

The COAS stressed that military action must be complemented by dialogue, reconciliation and other peace-building measures to prevent criminal elements from reversing the gains already made.

He therefore directed the troops to respond firmly to threats while maintaining professional standards and respecting the rights of law-abiding citizens.

He assured the troops that the Nigerian Army would continue to provide the necessary support for them to fulfil their constitutional responsibilities and protect lives and property.

Lieutenant General Shaibu also called on residents to continue providing security agencies with timely and reliable information, noting that lasting peace in Plateau requires the collective efforts of security agencies, government institutions, traditional authorities, community leaders and citizens.
