On the early hours of April 9, 2023, Israel Mobolaji Adesanya, a professional mixed martial artist from New Zealand with Nigerian roots, reclaimed his Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Middleweight title by defeating Alexsandro Pereira, a Brazilian professional mixed martial artist, in the main event of UFC 287.
During the first round, Adesanya took some leg kicks from Pereira and struggled to land his own punches.
In the second round, both fighters traded leg kicks and powerful shots to the body. At one point, Pereira caught Adesanya’s leg and backed him into a corner, reminiscent of their previous fight in November 2022.
However, Adesanya had learned from his mistake and was better prepared this time around. He covered his head well and managed to land a straight right punch that cleanly hit Pereira’s jaw. As Pereira fell to the ground, Adesanya added a left hook to seal the deal, knocking out his opponent and winning the fight.
