Sabinus, the popular skit maker known with his blue shirt and short tie, aka Mr Funny aka Something Hooge, spoke at SMFEST with me in Owerri last weekend.
I already promised to compile the list of things I learnt from him.
But let me quickly drop the biggest lesson I took from him.
I want to title this lesson, “Serving the largest possible target audience”
Sabinus said he told himself that he wants to be a skit maker that will appeal to all generations, from young to old.
He doesn’t want to walk past, a son will recognize him and the father wouldn’t know him.
He wants both father and son to know him and love him.
He said he told himself that he wants an entire family to sit together and watch his skits.
He doesn’t want all those Ikebe-super comedy that the father has to hide to watch.
He wants a large target audience.
He said many times, beautiful girls have approached him to showcase their assets in his skits. He would decline and tell them he doesn’t do such skits.
His skits are family oriented and not for showing bress and ass.
He remembered one incident when a pretty girl came on his set thinking she would dress se.xy, wear loads of makeup and all that.
He told her the script was no makeup, tie wrapper and form local, the girl was very sad that she couldn’t display her wares.
He said this is why he was able to win African Magic award because they are a family oriented TV business.
Ah! See wisdom!
Sabinus may be making us laugh, but he has a crystal clear understanding of how he can attract an entire family to watch his skits, grow his viewership and grow his revenues.
He is very delibrate about having a huge audience.
Learn from Sabinus.
How can your business reach a wider audience?
A decision?A commitment?Focus?Research?
How?
I love you!
