The African Democratic Congress (ADC), which previously had Actress Tonto Dike as its Deputy Governorship Candidate in Rivers State, has decided to withdraw from the race. The party made this decision in order to forge a stronger alliance with the All Progressives Congress (APC) with the aim of producing the next governor of the state.
During a media briefing in Port Harcourt on Thursday, the Governorship Candidate of a political party, Tonte Ibraye, disclosed that the party had made a decision to support the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Tonye Cole. Ibraye explained that Cole was chosen as a unifier of the opposite parties due to his successful business background and detribalized approach to politics. He also appealed to the other candidates in the Rivers West Senatorial District, where he and Cole hail from, to support the APC.
In response to allegations that he and other party leaders were paid to make this decision, Ibraye denied such claims.
Reacting to their decision, Tonye Cole took to his social media to thank them for stepping and pulling weights behind him.
He said, “The leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and their gubernatorial flag bearers in Rivers State, Mr. Tonte Ibraye and Ms. Tonto Dikeh have officially stepped down and endorsed Tonye Cole, the governorship candidate of APC.
I want to appreciate the leadership of the Rivers State African Democratic Congress (ADC) and their gubernatorial flag bearers Mr. Tonte Ibraye and Ms. Tonto Dikeh, for believing in our vision enough to officially step down and channel their support for my candidacy.
Rivers State is bigger than any of us, and we must come together to do what we collectively agree is best for Rivers State.”
