10 Reasons You Should Visit Uyo

If you are connected with me on social media, chances are you already know that I was in Uyo, the capital city of Akwa Ibom to facilitate a digital marketing masterclass at the just concluded Ibom Iconic Week 2021. But I didn’t only go there to speak or train people and return to my base, I was particularly interested in exploring the city; after all the theme for this year’s Ibom Iconic Week was “Explore Akwa Ibom”.

Before my travel, I had researched places to visit in Uyo including hotels in Uyo. I got there and everything was nothing close to what I have seen before in all the cities I have been to in Nigeria .

And now I want to share my experiences to help people thinking about where to visit for holidays In Nigeria.

Uyo is safe

In a world where terror and violence have become everyday occurrences, Uyo is perhaps one of the best places to visit if you pay premium attention to your security. From sources across the web, Uyo is among the top five safe cities in Nigeria.

This means you won’t have to worry about your safety while in Uyo. Your security is more important than any enjoyment. Choose Uyo.

No traffic

As someone who lives in Port Harcourt and visits Lagos regularly, heavy traffic is part of everyday life. But In Uyo, I experienced a traffic- free life for the first time in a long time. So, If you are thinking about good road, free flow of traffic and without Agboros, then think Uyo.

Enjoy the best food

Nigeria is blessed with food, but if you talk of cities with great food in Nigeria, Uyo is the Whatsapp group admin, no cap.

Just after eating afang soup and concluding that it’s the best thing in the world, the next day they brought Ekpang Nkwuwo and It feels like I just started eating.

I Dont know how they do it but it’s like they have a system that verifies and approves people before they start cooking and selling food in Uyo.

I’m saying this because even the snail I had in Uyo tasted different from what I have tasted before. Makes me conclude that anybody who has not eaten Akwa Ibom food before has just been snacking all his life.

Affordable hotels

I was in Ewet Housing, a place that is like GRA. Surprisingly, what I paid was 10X what I would pay for a hotel in GRA, Port Harcourt. E shock me .

I also checked other 3 stars, 4 stars and 5 stars hotels in Uyo and compared with the ones in Owerri and Port Harcourt, and that was when I finally agreed that this ‘life no balance’.

Economical Transportation

The place I first enjoyed cheap transportation in Nigeria was Jos. However, Uyo’s own is on another level. Firstly, I didn’t know Bolt has KeKe and it can be as cheap as N150 with discount until my last visit to Uyo.

I will go from Ewet Housing down to Tropicana and I won’t pay more than N500. And I will move from Tropicana to Ibom Plaza and I will pay just N300. The first time I was like, “no be juju be dat”. Lols

I paid N150 for bolt KeKe to Itam Park and e shocked me

You can go round the whole city without breaking the bank. Even Sapa no go complain in Uyo

Nice and friendly people

The people in Uyo are just nice and beautiful.

At a Karaoke lounge inside Tropicana, I reached out to two ladies who were seating next to my table and asked for their iphone charger to power my phone, they didn’t even think twice, she removed her phone which was less than 50% and gave me her charger with a smile on her face.

Another time when I was in a fruit juice and shawama joint, a young couple gave up their seat for me, a singular man and move to a less comfortable place.

In all my interactions with people in Uyo, it’s only been positive. They Dont struggle to say thank you or sorry, and they speak softly.

This is what we need everywhere in the world.

Affordable food

They Dont only have quality food, but it’s also affordable. You won’t believe that the afang soup with swallow and protein was 1k and the Ekpang Kwukwo was less than N1000.

I Dont know where they get their food stuff but I think the federal government needs to consult them so food will be affordable everywhere in the country. A bottle of malt at the karaoke bar is N300 with ice, in a serene place with great aesthetic, good music and beautiful lighting.
Uyo is the place for affordable luxury.

Clean and green environment

Everywhere in Uyo is clean. I think it’s a culture because my village in Etinan, even the untared roads are swept daily. Im yet to see this anywhere else.

Recreational centers

I will dedicate another blog post for places to visit in Uyo. For now, I want to tell you you won’t run out of options for places to visit in Uyo. I particularly love the gardens in Uyo.

Meet new people

If you are someone like me, meeting ad connecting with new people is high on your to do list when traveling. And why this is even better in Uyo is that the people are ever welcoming. So, it doesn’t matter whether you are an extrovert or introvert, in Uyo, they are people that will make networking easy for you.

Just look nice, smell nice and charge your phone to take photos and save numbers. Also, do well to brush your mouth well and have mint in your mouth so the conversation will flow well.Lols

Meanwhile, if you have been to Uyo before, do well to share your experience in the comments section below.
