‘AFRICAN OF THE YEAR’, AKINWUMI ADESINA, GRACES THE COVER OF FORBES AFRICA

Akinwumi Adesina, termed Africa’s Mr Development, graces the cover of Forbes Africa (Dec 2019-Jan. 2020) as he wins the award of “African of The Year”. This reputable Nigerian was born in Ibadan, Oyo state, and graduated with First class honours from the University of Ibadan, where he studied Agricultural Economics. He further proceeded to Purdue university, Indiana and finally got his PhD in 1988. He also won the Outstanding PhD Thesis for his research work.

Adesina was Nigeria’s Minister of Agriculture from 2010-2015. During this period, he was named Forbes Man of the Year for his immense contribution and reforms of the Agricultural Sector in Nigeria.

He assumed office as the eight president of AfDB three years ago in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, beginning his tenure on September 1 2015, and has remained ever since. He is the 8th president of the organization and the only Nigerian to have ever held the post.

He is happily married to Grace Adesina, and they have two children.
