Archbishop Emmah Isong Named UNICAL Religious Affairs Ambassador for Impactful Service to Humanity

In celebration of lives lived in service and excellence, the University of Calabar (UNICAL) has bestowed its Religious Affairs Ambassadorial Award on Archbishop Dr. Emmah Isong, honouring his unwavering dedication to spiritual leadership and humanitarian service.

Archbishop Isong, who serves as the National Vice President of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), South-South Zone, is a distinguished alumnus of UNICAL. The award recognizes not just his ministerial accomplishments, but also his embodiment of the university’s guiding principle: Knowledge for Service.

The presentation took place at the City of Testimonies, headquarters of Christian Central Chapel International, Ikot Ene-Obong, 8 Miles, Calabar. Representing the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Florence Obi, was Prof. Eyong Ubana, Dean of the College of Graduate Studies and Chairman of the UNICAL at 50 Anniversary Committee.

“We are thrilled to celebrate one of our own,” Prof. Ubana said. “You have taken the knowledge acquired here and turned it into a lifelong commitment to serving humanity. That is the spirit of a true Malabite.”

Prof. Ubana was joined by Dr. Dorn Cklaimz Enamhe, Executive Secretary of the UNICAL NUGA Games, in commending Archbishop Isong for his alignment with the university’s values and for being a role model to generations.

“Your spiritual leadership and teachings mirror the ideals we stand for at UNICAL,” Ubana added. “You are not just an alumnus—you are an ambassador, and you have made us proud.”

Visibly moved by the honour, Archbishop Isong expressed profound gratitude to his alma mater, describing the recognition as both humbling and inspiring.

“This award is not just a recognition of past efforts; it’s a challenge to do even more,” he said. “I am deeply honoured and recommit myself to living out the values UNICAL instilled in me.”

The award presentation is part of UNICAL’s 50th-anniversary celebration, during which the institution is spotlighting alumni who have distinguished themselves in various fields and upheld the university’s legacy of excellence.
