Meet Gbadebo Rhodes Vivour, The Labour Party Governorship Candidate In Lagos State

Gbadebo Rhodes Vivour profile 

Gbadebo Chinedu Rhodes-Vivour, popularly known as GRV, is a Nigerian architect, activist, and politician born on March 8, 1983, in Lagos Island. At the age of 39, he is currently the gubernatorial candidate of the Labour Party for Lagos State in the upcoming 2023 Lagos State gubernatorial election.

Education

Rhodes-Vivour has an impressive educational background, having attended Chrisland School in Lagos, Ecol Artive Berlin in Paris, the University of Nottingham for his BSc in Architecture, MIT for his MSc in Architecture, and the University of Lagos for his MSc in Research & Public Policy. He completed all of his studies by the age of 27.

Political Career

Before joining the Labour Party, Rhodes-Vivour was the senatorial candidate for the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos West senatorial district in the 2019 election. However, he later withdrew from the party just before the primary election and joined the Labour Party, where he contested in a substitute election to become the substantive candidate for the party. He won the LP substitution primary, defeating Moshood Salvador, a former chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), by 111 votes to 102.

Work

Apart from his political career, Rhodes-Vivour has worked with some of Nigeria’s top architecture firms, including Consultants Collaborative Partnership (CCP) and Patrick Waheed Consultants, before establishing his own company to address the housing crisis in Nigeria by using creative and unconventional construction techniques to build affordable housing. He founded Spatial Tectonics and serves on the boards of Alhuda Construction Nigeria and Delta International Commercial City Ltd.

Activism

Rhodes-Vivour is also actively involved in civil society advocacy groups. He is the convener of the civil society group, Nigerians Against GMO, an Anti-GMO advocacy group fighting against the proliferation of Genetically Modified Foods in Nigeria. He campaigns for the inclusion of history as a subject in Nigerian school curricula and has led protests against environmental degradation.

Achievements

In 2022, Rhodes-Vivour collaborated with WellaHealth to provide free health checks and insurance for 1 million people in Lagos who have their Voter’s card, in commemoration of World Malaria Day and to encourage people to get their Voter’s card to enable them to vote in upcoming elections.

Personal Life: Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour is married with children. He is married to Dr. Ify Rhodes-Vivour (née Aniebo), a molecular geneticist by profession[8] who is the daughter of former military administrator to Kogi and Borno states, Augustine Aniebo.
