Biography of Saint Obi

Full name is Obinna Nwafọ, popularly known as Saint Obi.

Saint Obi was born on 16th November 1965 in Port Harcourt in Rivers State. He hails from Ọgwa in Mbaitoli Local Government Area, Imo State. He is the only male child with eight other female sisters.

He attended primary, secondary and tertiary education in Jos.

He studied Theatre Arts at the University of Jos.

Saint Obi joined Nollywood in 1995 and featured in different soap operas aired on NTA after which he was called by Opa Williams to star in movie.

Saint Obi has been involved in over 250 movies since his acting debut in 1995.

He produced his first movie titled “Take Me to Maama” where he starred as Jerry, alongside Ebi Sam, Rachel Oniga, Nse Abel and Enebeli Elebuwa.

Take me to Maama was the first Nigerian movie to receive a corporate endorsement. It was endorsed by Coca-Cola and marketed and promoted by NTA.

He quit acting to focus on his businesses.

Saint Obi is a business mogul. He is the CEO of Agwhyte International. The company is involved in Film, Television, Media & Consultancy Company.

Agwhyte was a major media resource for Goodluck Jonathan’s Presidential Campaign.

The company also has a music unit and movie production section which recently released 5 blockbuster movies which include After the Vow, Mrs. Brown, Big Shot, Invaders and My Yesterday. Agwhyte spent over N200 million to release these movies.

Other companies by Saint Obi include:

  1. Peak Score Limited: an Oil Services & Exploration company.
  2. Project Image Nigeria: producer of handbills, films, TV & Radio commercials that promote Nigeria.
  3. Agwhyte Music Inc: The label produced the song, IMAGINE… THE DREAM which was a non-profit song designed to assist UNICEF and other social causes, especially global peace n harmony.
  4. Entertainment Extravaganza: An annual fun night for corporate Nigeria.
  5. Elite Business Africa Network: Owners of Nigeria Elite Business Awards; a celebration of the best of corporate Nigeria/Africa.

As a philanthropist, he set up Saint Obi Foundation. The Foundation has sunk boreholes for those in rural areas to produce healthy and drinkable water. It has involved in repair of roads and construction of shops for those in rural areas.

The foundation also teach students in various schools, values and create awareness on the hazards of irresponsible traits. It fights against Osu System and its syndrome in some communities in ala Igbo.

Saint Obi Foundation is an empowerment platform with gender inclusiveness or age.

Saint Obi is behind the scene now, managing his chains of businesses.

He was married to an Anambra woman, by name Lydia.

Saint Obi’s Dead

On Sunday, May 7, 2023, it was reported that Saint Obi, a well-known Nigerian actor, had passed away. According to sources, he died in the home of one of his siblings. However, the official announcement of his death has been delayed due to a disagreement between his siblings.

At the moment, the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) and the Association of Movie Producers (AMP) are actively working to obtain more information from the family and make an official announcement about the actor’s passing.

Saint Obi was a prominent figure in the Nigerian film industry, gaining recognition for his role in Zeb Ejiro’s “Sakobi” and featuring in over 100 movies throughout his career. He was widely regarded for his exceptional acting skills and captivating on-screen presence.

It is a tragic loss for the Nigerian entertainment industry and the countless fans who admired his work. May he rest in peace. Amen.
