Shallipopi hails from Edo State, specifically Benin City. His upbringing took place at the Evian Palace, where he grew up with a strong connection to his roots and cultural heritage.

Musical Career

Shallipopi’s breakthrough in the music industry came with his song titled “Gra Gra,” which went viral on TikTok. This success marked the beginning of his journey to fame, and he later solidified his presence in the Nigerian and international music scene with his hit single “Elon Musk.”

The release of his EP titled “Planet Pluto” further established his musical prowess, with the track “Ex Convict” topping charts and gaining massive popularity. Shallipopi’s unique sound sets him apart from the usual trends, making his songs stand out and resonate with listeners.

In 2023, his debut single “Elon Musk” was the turning point that propelled him to stardom. The song’s catchy chorus and infectious rhythm quickly endeared him to a wide audience. Fraud Case and EFCC Saga

Despite his meteoric rise to fame, Shallipopi faced a significant setback when he was embroiled in a fraud case. On June 23, 2023, he, along with five others, namely Bethel Makuochukwu, John Joseph, Favour Chidiogo Emmanuel, Abdul-Azeez Suleiman Temidayo, and Joel Kator, was convicted and sentenced to two years in prison for money laundering.

Interestingly, while Shallipopi was serving his sentence, his song “Ex Convict” remarkably topped the #1 spot on the Nigerian music chart, thanks in part to a repost from the highly influential Afrobeat king, Wizkid. This unexpected twist further added to Shallipopi’s controversial reputation.

In a statement released by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), it was revealed that the defendants impersonated foreign nationals, using false identities to defraud unsuspecting victims. The court ordered them to forfeit all electronic gadgets, furniture, and other items recovered from them to the Federal Government of Nigeria.
