TAOHEED BAYO DESIGNS “AFRO-YUTE”FOR NIKE

Taoheed Bayo is a student of University of Minnesota and was among the designers picked to compete in Nike BY You X Cultivator contest.

After weeks of trying to come up with a shoe that would appeal to customers and at the same time tell a story, the Afro-Yute Air Max 1 was born. This design is inspired by his Nigerian roots and experience.

The 21-year old student of Actuarial Science also believes that the deliberate colour combination, suede material, and architectural design of the shoe captures the narratives he wants to teach and tell the world about Africa.

Bayo has a team of creatives promoting the sale and message behind Afro-Yute. So far, people are enthusiastic about this project and are already queueing up to buy the Afro-Yute Air Max 1.

He is the second Nigerian this year to design a shoe for Nike, the other being Peter Johnson.
