The Mayor of Pitakwa Press Conference: KO Baba Unveils Theme, Performing Artists, Date, and Venue

The Mayor of Pitakwa is a comedy show hosted by Nigerian comedian, KO Baba. The inaugural edition of the show took place at the Aztec Event Center on Easter Monday, April 2020.

On February 26, 2024, KO Baba held a press conference at Ediz Wine Bar to brief the media on his plans for the 2024 edition of the Mayor of Pitakwa scheduled to take place on Easter Monday, April 1st, 2024.

KO started by thanking everyone for attending the press conference. His story is one of starting a small show in Diobu and eventually using all the major event centers in Port Harcourt, now culminating in booking the biggest venue in the South-South.

In addition to the mentioned performing artists, KO Baba promised to give young comedians an opportunity to showcase their talents and connect with the audience during the show. He pledged to pay them even though they are upcoming comedians.

Speaking on behalf of the performing artists, Mudiaga expressed excitement about the energetic lineup and promised value exceeding attendees’ expectations. He thanked KO Baba for inspiring other comedians.

Explaining why The Mayor of Pitakwa Comedy Show is the biggest comedy event in Port Harcourt, it was highlighted that the show attracted 5000 attendees, utilized the largest venue no other comedian has used, and will have billboards in Imo State, Akwa Ibom, and Calabar this year. With these achievements, it was asserted that The Mayor of Pitakwa is the biggest event in Port Harcourt and one of the biggest in Nigeria.

During the Q&A session, a journalist inquired about government support for events like this. KO Baba responded by stating that the show directly and indirectly employs over 70 individuals. He emphasized the tourism value of the show as people fly in from outside the state and even from outside the country.

KO Baba also used the opportunity to advise the Rivers Government on leveraging entertainment to create jobs and engage youths positively, suggesting appointing a Special Adviser on Entertainment to collaborate with entertainers in job creation.

KO Baba unveiled the theme: “Dem dey Like to fool us”, coinciding with April Fool’s Day, April 1.
