The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Sabo Nanono, has confirmed that the upgraded College of Agriculture, Zuru, kebbi State, to the Federal University of Agriculture, Kebbi, will take off officially September 2020.
The minister made this disclosure at the inauguration of the Interim Management Committee of the University in Abuja, on 9th December.
The upgrade came into effect with the president’s assent to two bills passed by the 8th National Assembly. The bill contained the idea of upgrading the College of Agriculture to a University status, and reforming penal measure of the Architects Registration Council. The newest Nigerian university is expected to introduce new and flexible locally-oriented programmes that will bridge the gap between Agriculture and Entrepreneurship. The Interim Management Committee is expected to facilitate the operational commencement of the institution.
Also, the Interim Vice-Chancellor of the University, Bello Abubakar, on behalf of the committee assured the general public and the government that the terms and reasons of establishing this institution will be met.
