In Defense of Officer James Abah: Setting the Record Straight on the Blackbox Club Incident

By Jacob Amadi – Concerned Citizen, Witness & Advocate for Truth

In the age of viral content and digital influence, truth often becomes a casualty. In recent days, a video posted by popular online personality Very Dark Man (VDM) has stirred public outrage. In it, he accuses Officer James Abah of accepting a bribe to cover up an assault case that allegedly occurred at Blackbox Club.

As someone who was physically present at the police division during the early phase of this case, I can no longer remain silent. I owe it to justice—and to the truth—to speak up.

The Real Story the Internet Ignored

There is clear video evidence—available for public viewing—that shows Officer James Abah never demanded or received any bribe. Quite the opposite. What the video reveals is a professional officer handling a delicate case with due process.

In fact, Officer Abah was already preparing to charge the suspects to court before the case was transferred—as per standard protocol—to the State CID for further investigation. There was no backdoor deal, no bribe, no manipulation. Just standard procedure.

A Reckless Accusation

What’s most baffling is this: VDM was never part of the investigation, and he made no attempt to reach out to Officer Abah or the investigating officers for their side of the story. Yet, he went ahead to make damning accusations—accusations that have now proven false, if not deliberately misleading.

I Was There

I sat in that police station. I watched as Officer Abah took statements from all involved parties. I witnessed how he documented everything meticulously and made clear his intent to pursue the matter legally. At no point was there a cover-up. At no point did anyone exchange money.

So again, I ask:
Why would someone who claims to be an advocate for justice try to tarnish the name of an officer simply doing his job?
Was this about justice—or just another attempt to trend?

The Danger of Weaponizing Influence

Having a platform that reaches millions is a powerful thing. But with that power comes responsibility—to verify, to investigate, and to report with integrity.

In this case, VDM failed in that responsibility. He chose virality over veracity, pushing a false narrative while ignoring concrete evidence that contradicted his claims. That’s not advocacy. That’s misinformation.

We Must Speak Up for Good Officers

Yes, the Nigerian police system has its flaws. Yes, there are officers who betray the badge. But that’s precisely why we must defend the good ones.

When we allow honest officers like James Abah to be smeared without cause, we discourage integrity within the system. We send a dangerous message: that doing the right thing still makes you a target.

The Facts Are Clear:
• The assault case at Blackbox Club was properly investigated.
• There is video evidence that absolves Officer Abah of any wrongdoing.
• The case was transferred out of his hands before reaching court.
• Officer Abah had no role in any alleged bribe or cover-up.

This Is Bigger Than One Officer

This is a plea—not just for Officer James Abah—but for every honest, law-abiding officer out there who gets wrongly accused, simply because they chose to follow the law. Their silence should not be taken as guilt. And their service should not be repaid with slander.

Let it be known:
Truth doesn’t need to shout. It simply stands.
And in this case, the truth stands firmly with Officer James Abah.
