You Can Now Pay For Your Facebook And Instagram Account To Be Verified – Mark Zuckerberg

On Monday, February 19, 2023, Mark Zuckerberg, the Chief Executive Officer of Facebook announced the launch of a new product and a subscription-based service that will give individuals on Facebook the option to pay for their page verification as against waiting to qualify for the normal verification which could take forever to happen.

The statement by the Facebook CEO reads:
“Good morning and new product announcement: this week we’re starting to roll out Meta Verified — a subscription service that lets you verify your account with a government ID, get a blue badge, get extra impersonation protection against accounts claiming to be you, and get direct access to customer support. This new feature is about increasing authenticity and security across our services. Meta Verified starts at $11.99 / month on web or $14.99 / month on iOS. We’ll be rolling out in Australia and New Zealand this week and more countries soon.”

This comes after Elon Musk announced a similar service for Twitter users.
Recall that in January, 2023, Elon Musk announced Twitter Blue, a paid subscription for a blue checkmark. Twitter Blue is an opt-in, paid monthly subscription that adds a blue checkmark to your account and offers early access to select new features, like Edit Tweet.

For Twitter Blue, prices start at USD$8 (S$10.69) a month or $84 (S$112.29) a year.
Meta Verified on the other hand starts at $11.99 / month on web or $14.99 / month on iOS.

One thing to note is that Meta Verified will only support the user’s real name on their profile once verified. This means that you cannot change your profile name, username, date of birth and profile picture without going through the whole verification application process again.

Meanwhile, if you are in Nigeria, you cannot access the Meta Verified services yet as it’s only available for those in Australia and New Zealand. However, I’m sure within few months it will be made available for users in Nigeria.
