“The most exciting rhythms seem unexpected and complex, the most beautiful melodies simple and inevitable.”
The first time I met Deborah, it was at a jazz club where everything was overpriced ‘cept her music. She started like a sad story, breaking resolves and second thoughts harmlessly. That night, her music was weightless, alluring, and had us all in a haze.
And today, nothing about her craft and personality has changed, except the corollary goodness that comes with the passage of time.
Deborah Temisanren Prest is an indie soul singer, songwriter and recording artiste. She recently released her debut EP “CURIOUS”, an EP of 6 tracks. She features BRYMO in “TIME” the 3rd track on the EP. An eclectic combo I’d say. When Deborah sings, the raw vulnerability unearths you, leaving you powerless in the face of her ethereal personality.
Born and raised in Delta state, this songstress is the Granddaughter of late Chief Arthur Prest. Her dad discovered she could sing at age 6 and at the age of 10. She joined her dad’s music band, performing cover songs from various genres, this lone experience helped in honing her skills as a live performer.
In 2017, Deborah Prest started her solo career, recording her own songs. She released her debut single “SPACES” in January 2018, setting a manifest track record for her genre of music. This was followed by her 2nd single “MAGIC”, which was released on July 29 2018 and produced by ‘BIGFOOTINYOURFACE’. She was also featured in Sigag Lauren‘s track “Party Nights” released in 2018, which attracted a lot of attention as her voice added a distinct musical spice without unnecessary complexity.
Deborah Prest makes conscious efforts to embrace and re-invent this genre convincingly, at the same time not straying far from her musical influences. The earliest influences can be traced far back to the collection of songs her dad had at home and the lineup of songs she performed over the years growing up. These Includes the likes of The Police, Tina Turner, The Beatles, Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson, Phil Collins, Felix Liberty, Mike Okri, Angelique Kidjo, Orits Wiliki, The Cranberries.
Deborah Prest is a whole delight, with the perfect brew of a luscious voice, a strong lyrical content, and the obvious confidence of her delivery. And this is not all, she is also a prolific songwriter and performer, made remarkable by her obvious love of music and a deep knowledge of effective music.
